Laboratory Operations Specialist

Position Overview

The Laboratory Operations Specialist will be responsible for the intake, processing, storage, and shipment of biospecimens and data. In addition, this position is responsible for the ongoing organization and maintenance of the iSpecimen lab and assisting with feasibility assessments, order entry and shipping management for the remnant collections workflow as needed.

Please note:
this position does not involve any lab testing but does require a physical presence in the lab.

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain supplies and general organization of the lab
  • Perform routine lab maintenance including daily, weekly, monthly and as needed equipment maintenance
  • Utilize iSpecimen’s proprietary technologies to accession specimens, manage shipments, and track specimen inventory
  • Handle orders for samples from iSpecimen Bio’s inventory as well as partner biorepositories
  • Perform centrifugation, aliquoting and other basic lab techniques as required
  • Process inbound shipments including verification of specimen integrity
  • Prepare outgoing shipments
  • Organize in-house and online inventory
  • Capture and organize requirements, assign feasibility assessments to Suppliers, and track and manage feasibility assessments at Suppliers.
  • Working with sales and legal, create proper order paperwork including statements of work and purchase orders to initiate orders at Suppliers.
  • Using iSpecimen technology, manage orders.
  • Demonstrate commitment to quality and continuous improvement, working closely with technology team to provide input and suggestions on ways to automate lab workflow
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience in clinical research, biorepository management, clinical lab testing, or another biospecimen-related field
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety protocols
  • Relevant laboratory and/or specimen-processing experience is a plus
  • Exceptional computer skills, including intermediate mastery of Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Great interpersonal skills. Likes working with people. Positive attitude. Happy. Energetic.
  • Self-starter who likes to get things done and has an appetite for continuous learning
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment, think creatively and come up with new, valuable approaches
  • Proven track record of attention to detail and ability to work in a continually changing environment
  • Easily approachable, tech savvy, professional, and a strong sense of business ethics
