Tech Lead Full Stack with BE Focus
Position Overview
We are seeking a Tech Lead for our small scrum team. This job is about 60% hands on engineering and about 40% leadership. The leadership responsibilities may be done as either an engineering manager or as a technical lead without full management responsibility depending on the desire and career direction of the successful candidate.
- 60% engineering: You are a senior full-stack engineer writing code and reviewing code. You have a deep expertise and love of Back End services and data, but are familiar with the front end as well. You have a DevOps mindset and you take a lead not only in coding features, but also automating your team’s CI/CD and testing pipelines so that the team can test and release in a speedy and fully automated manner.
- 40% leadership: You will be the day to day leader of your engineering team, leading scrum ceremonies, leading the design of large features with your team, leading code reviews for your team, collaborating with your product manager on direction for upcoming sprints. You delegate features and designs to engineers on your team based on their level of expertise and you use each new feature as a mentoring opportunity for the engineers involved.

We are building a marketplace that connects medical researchers to the human biospecimens they need through our network of hundreds of hospitals and labs. Tech Skills:
- Overall Experience
- 7+ years of professional programming experience
- Computer Science degree is preferred
- Technical Experience
- SQL expert (5+ years)
- Java expert (5+ years)
- Angular or React (2+ years)
- RESTful API experience (3+ years)
- AWS experience
- Docker experience
Nice to Have:
- AWS certification(s)
- AWS Lambda experience
- Python experience
- Kubernetes experience
- NoSQL / OpenSearch experience
- Experience writing CI/CD pipelines for yourself and your team
- Healthcare, pharma, or biotech experience
- Has been the technical leader or manager of small scrum teams (4-6 people)
- Has been the team leader for architecture and design decisions with your team
- Has mentored engineers on your team to improve both technical and team skills
- May (or may not) have been the manager of engineers on your team
- Desire to create a shared roadmap collaboratively with a product manager
- Has experience running Agile Scrum ceremonies either by yourself or together with your product manager
Other Requirements:
- Demonstrated success of your team releasing impactful software products to production users
- Has experience leading design and build of a new database + new RESTful APIs
- Has designed and built data migration jobs or other data-heavy software in the past
- Has demonstrated some experience successfully building Front End pages in Angular or React
Salary & Benefits:
- Comp structure = Base + Equity (Stock Options)
- Base salary $160K - $175K depending on experience
