Senior Back End Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Full Stack engineer with a focus on the Back End and Data. You will be a hands-on engineer in a team of 3-5 engineers. Your primary job is to write code for our Data processing pipelines and write APIs to connect our services and systems together. You will have opportunities to lead the technical design and implementation of large projects with multiple engineers.

iSpecimen is a small public company (~100 people) on a mission to accelerate medical research. We are building a marketplace that connects medical researchers to the human biospecimens they need through a network of hundreds of hospitals and labs. Our Tech Stack

  • Platform: AWS + Docker + Microservices
  • Data: AWS RDS + PostgreSQL + OpenSearch
  • Back End: Java + RESTful APIs + Python + AWS Lambda
  • Front End: Typescript + Angular

Tech Skills

  1. Overall Experience
    1. 5+ years of professional programming experience
    2. Computer Science degree is preferred
  2. Technical Experience
    1. SQL expert (5+ years)
    2. Java expert (5+ years) (C# is ok)
    3. Angular or React (2+ years)
    4. RESTful API experience (3+ years)
    5. Experience deploying to AWS (preferred), GCP or Azure.
    6. Docker + Kubernetes experience or exposure
    7. Nice to have:
      1. AWS certification(s)
      2. AWS Lambda experience
      3. Python experience
      4. NoSQL / OpenSearch experience
      5. Experience writing CI/CD pipelines for yourself and your team
      6. Healthcare, pharma, or biotech experience
  3. Leadership and culture
    1. Agile / scrum experience. (Scrum leadership experience is a bonus)
    2. Technical leadership on large, multi-month project
    3. Desire to work collaboratively with a small team and a product manager

Other Requirements

  • Must enjoy working with in a small scrum team (3-6 engineers)
  • Demonstrated success on a team designing and building a new database + new RESTful APIs
  • Designed and built data migration jobs or other data-heavy software in the past
  • Demonstrated some experience successfully building Front End pages in Angular or React

Salary and Benefits

  • Comp structure = Base + Equity (Stock Options)
    • Base salary $140K - $175K depending on experience
    • Equity (Stock Options) included
